Those crag boars are quite burly; maybe you'd like something with a little more finesse? Alright then, I've got jus' the thing. South and east of here, you'll find large white cats called snow leopards. Just like an elegantly-carved rifle, behind their beautiful exterior lies a powerful fighter, capable of doing extreme damage. You'll find them to be much more agile an' swift than the boar you tamed.
Take this taming rod and see how you like the snow leopard.
Progress:
What do you think of the snow leopard, Sonheim?

When I feel you've learned enough, I will grant you the ability to choose any pet of your liking.

Hunter Alliance Quest
Taming the Beast (Dwarf Hunter) - (Step 2) Use the Taming Rod to tame an Ice Claw Bear. Practice your skills, then return the Taming Rod to Grif Wildheart in Kharanos.
#First question is simple - You have chosen your character to be a Hunter?
if so go find Grif Wildheart in Kharanos. he will ask you to get your first pet by using the taming rod.
to use the rod - get close to the pet your gonna tame (not on top of them) and activate the rod.
you should see friendship hearts appear on the animal and the progresion bar to say how your doing. when it gets to the end - ta da you have a pet.
Bad news - the pet will aggro and attack you. (hence your distance). so as long as your armor is good dont attack or stop the rod activation.
if you have it - set up the ice trap before you try to tame the beast. they will still be tamed while frozen
