Another pet question

Hello,
I am a level 12 nightelf hunter. I just got the ability to tame pets. I tried to tame a level 12 bear and it didn't go so well. Is it best to tame pets who are lower level than you?

You can't tame a pet over your level, but anything your level and under is fair game. Some tricks to make pet taming a little easier. Put on aspect of the monkey before you start, hit them with a concussion arrow and then start taming. Once you have frost trap, you can also drop one of those to avoid damage for 10 seconds or so.

To add further to Cob's great suggestions...

Be prepared to either use Scare Beast, Wing Clip or Feign Death if the Tame fails. You can then run out of aggro raidus, or with FD, wait until the mob walks away, regen health and try again.

For some reason I have a lot of success taming now. I think I've failed on 1 mob since retail, whereas in beta I failed 3 or 4 times per mob. Even at level 42 taming Snarler, it took the first try. Same with an Ironfur bear to learn Bite or Claw. At 43 I failed taming King Bangledesh the first time, but that's because he killed me before taming was up :)
